Matala is a lively village with a nice live music scene going on after dark, both in the streets and in the bars, always within the hippie philosophy.
Here are some of our favourite spots:
Nightlife
Mad Irie – Nice little reggae bar with relaxing atmosphere. Great vegetarian/vegan food too!
Bunga Bunga – Cool hippie style beach bar in Kommos beach – the other side of the cliff. Perfect place for wonderful sunsets!
Music Cafe Bar – For a beer/raki in Matala’s central square, where there’s often live music
Boho Beach Bar – Good location in the middle of the beach, with great view to the bay and the caves
Kahlua Bar – Cozy tiny bar with great cocktails and view
Hakuna Matata – Cool little bar built into the stone on the far end of the beach. Good music and some dancing going on at night
Eating out:
Taverna Sunset – Original cretan taverna with fantastic view over Matala beach and amazing sunsets
Restaurant Scala – For good fish/seafood
George’s Yard – Cretan tastes with a modern touch. On the main street of Matala
Pizzeria Ariadne – Popular taverna in Kamilari village. Good pizza and atmosphere, but it can get quite crowded in the evening so consider making a reservation
