Matala is located 70km south of Heraklion. You can get here either by car or by bus

By car: Take the road to Mires, Once there, take the exit towards Pitsidia and Matala. You will need about an hour to drive from Heraklion to Matala.

By bus: There are two daily buses covering the Heraklion-Matala route, departing from the centre of Heraklion (Bus Station A); hours can change depending on the day of the week you’re traveling, so make sure to check the timetables on the bus company’s website (https://www.ktelherlas.gr/en/)
The bus drops you off very close to the hostel, so you can easily walk here.

 

Check in from 3pm. If you’re arriving late, please let us know in advance!

Check out by noon. If you’re checking out early, please let us know beforehand!

If you arrive early, you can store your luggage at the hostel until check in time. You can also store your luggage at the hostel for free for up to 12 hours after your check out time.

Depending on availability you can check out late (until 6pm) for 50% of the night rate.

Breakfast is not included in the price. However, there’s a number of items you can use for free in the communal kitchen, as well as a bar that serves simple dishes and snacks.

The kitchen is communal. You can use everything in there. Just make sure you clean up after yourself!

No! For security reasons, only people staying at the hostel are allowed inside.

Cash and most credit cards accepted.

All indoors areas are strictly non-smoking. You can smoke outdoors.

Towels are provided by the reception for a 2€ fee.

WiFi is free and available throughout the hostel.

There’s a locker for every bed. Remember to bring your own padlock!

No! Sheets and blankets are provided in the price. We discourage our guests from using their own bedding to avoid bedbug outbreaks!

Carrefour express – at the entrance of the village, in front of the big parking lot near the beach. You can find most things here, but there are bigger supermarkets in mires.

the closest pharmacy is in the village of pitsidia, a 5-minute drive from the hostel.

(the farm of) mama roukounaki just down the street, halfway to the center of matala, is a traditional shop with a great selection of high quality natural products
